PAINTING WORKSHOPS

  • CAPTURING THE JOY OF SPRING FLOWERS

    25 - 26 APRIL 2026

    The Anna Lovely Gallery, South London

    Over the weekend we will be celebrating the joy that Spring flowers bring and conveying that energy in our still life paintings.

    We will explore the exciting possibilties of mark making that oil painting provides as well covering all things technical .

    We will focus on colour- its possibility to convey feeling and communicate emotions.

    From a technical point of view, we will use a limited palette to create a kaleidoscopic array of colours

    After the weekend you will have met like minded artists and made friends and connections.

    You will leave with an armful of drawings and paintings and a head full of inspiration!

  • THE POETRY OF COLOUR IN STILL LIFE PAINTING

    9 - 10 MAY 2026

    Old Slen Studios, Yorkshire

    In this workshop will be exploring how colour can help convey a wide range of emotions and ideas in still life painting.

    We will be working from life and looking at a wide range of artists for inspiration from Cezanne to Manet to Morandi to Winifred Nicholson.

    During the weekend, I will demonstrate how to mix colour on my traditional wooden palette and explore how a limited palette can be the answer to create the most colourful and expressive paintings.

    This will be a deep dive into oil painting and COLOUR and a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the blissful and peaceful setting of this countryside studio.

  • STILL LIFE AND TEMPORALITY

    6 - 10 July 2026

    City & Guilds Art School, London

    Still Life painting is not a cold collection of inanimate objects, but if approached in the right way, can become a portal for the artist to express feelings, memory and hidden thoughts. But how to capture these things in paint?

    Every day we will work from a new still life arrangement inspired by the idea of temporality, it could be a piece of writing or painting.

    After a series of quick and exciting drawing exercises we will get painting!

    Taking our time to mix colours so we are free to react quickly and instinctively to what is in front of us.

    During the course, your observational drawing skills will improve and as a consequence you will feel more comfortable to take risks in your mark making.

    You will have expanded your painterly language and have deepened your technical understanding of oil paint.
